For My Mother - WiP03 [Sketching & Roughing]
Medium/s: Wolffs Carbon - pencil & powder [B, 2B, 4B & 6B], Charcoal Powder [Graded Commercial Willow 6B], Koh-i-Noor White Pastel & powder, & Derwent Pastel Pencil Titanium White [720].
Tool/s: Boldmere Nylon Shaper Brushes [Angled, Flat & Round], Royal & Langnickel Soft Grip White Taklon brushes [Flat & Filbert SG-305], Conte Kneadable eraser & Surgical Gloves.
Paper: A3 [297mm x 420mm] medium tooth Grey toned drawing paper.
Shoulder:
Very simple as her right shoulder is further away from the camera - & in the shade - so, I simply took a large Filbert no.8 & roughly applied Commercial Charcoal [6B] gradually darkening as I applied each layer.
Mouth & Chin:
Detailing to lower portion of her lips, her left side, our right, was directly added with the use of Wolff's Carbon pencil [HB] & gently darkened with 2B with a small round no.2. I then slightly added more of the White Pastel [Titanium White 720] just to give the lips some more depth & lift. . .besides, I don't have much time to rough & go back to refine later!
Chin area, moving towards her jawline, was darkened slightly with Commercial Charcoal [6B] to which I deliberately spilled into filling parts of her chubby little cheeks! For the highlight just underneath her ear where the jawline meets, I directly applied the Derwent White Pastel pencil [Titanium White 720] & filled in a small part of her neck - just behind her ear - for depth purposes.
Ear:
Using a small flat & angled no.2 & 4, I applied Wolffs Carbon powder [2B & 4B] to create the lower Conch leading to her earlobe. The pinch, where the ear meets the jawline, was created by softly applying a Wolffs carbon pencil [4B]. Derwent White Pastel pencil was applied to the inner Conch - stippling & blending with a small round no.2 - & also her outer earlobe to indicate sunlight coming from her left side.
Hopefully, the next stage will be submitted this Friday [11 days til I present this to my mother so, not a lot of time left]. Thank you to everyone who has viewd, favoured & left wonderful comments to which I am so appreciative of
